How to design a dozen roses.

Start with one dozen 50 cm roses, one bunch of mixed greens, one bunch of accent flower (in this case gypsophila-otherwise known as baby's breath), a clean vase and fresh water. Add florist's preservative according to directions. The preservative will help cut down on bacteria and make your roses last longer! For best results, use a clean sharp knife to cut the stems.

Add the greens first. Criss cross the stems as you place them in the vase. This will form a "grid" which will hold the roses in place once you put them in the vase. Make sure there are no leaves below the water line-that makes for more of that nasty bacteria : (

Some designers prefer to add the accent flower after the roses, but for inexperienced designers it may be easier to keep the roses in place if you add if first.

Make sure you cut all the stems on a sharp angle immediately before placing them in the water. This insures maximum water uptake. Rose stems start to dry up as soon as they are out of water making it hard for them to "drink". This results in droopy roses :(

Place the roses evenly around the vase. The tallest rose should go in the center. Don't make it tower above the others, though....it will look silly! Angle the roses on the outside into the vase so that the whole bouquet spreads out more...it will look better than having them all standing straight up in the middle!

Add a pretty bow it finish it off if you like. This bow is made with wired edge ribbon which is easy to shape.

Enjoy :)
